Meet Alfredo (Freddy) Marquez IV
Freddy was such a joy to photograph! He is so full of life! One of the things that I loved learning about him was how many things he likes to do! He loves basketball and his Nintendo Switch! He also is a scout to top it off! Enjoy getting to know Freddy!
How old are you? 7 years old
How old were you when you were diagnosed with T1D? I was 4 years old
What is your favorite subject in school? Science and Art
How did you feel when you were diagnosed? I felt Scared when I got diagnosed and especially when they placed the IV in my wrist at the hospital. It hurt a lot.
What do you like to do for fun? Like to play board games, play with my dad, and dribble with my mom. Go camping, hiking and go on my go kart.
How did you find out that you were diabetic? Drinking a lot of water and going to the restroom a lot my ear started hurting and my mom took me to the doctors.
Do you like being diabetic? Not really!
What is cool about being diabetic? That I have two needles in my body and I feel part robotic with my Dexcom and Omnipod.
What is the worst thing about being diabetic? That you have to change the Dexcom every week and the ominipod every three day’s. The needles hurt a lot.
What is your favorite food? Burgers, Pizza and Spaghetti.
What is your favorite movie? Pixels
Where is your favorite restaurant? Olive Garden
Where is your favorite place to vacation? California to go to Legoland and Disneyland.
If you could have 3 wishes granted, what would they be? 1. Help Daddy’s eyes open
2. Help me with my diabetes 3. Help all the poor people in the world.
Who is your favorite tv/book/story character and what do you like about him/her? It’s Mario because he can get powers like fire and super speed.
If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be? A roadrunner because it’s the second fastest animal in the world.
If you could wake up with a superpower, what would it be? Super strength, night vision, and speed.
What would you like others to know about being a diabetic? That it’s kinda cool because it feels like you are half human and half robot. I kinda don’t like because I have to check my sugars every time you have a meal OR a snack!
I didn’t get diabetes because I wasn’t eating healthy BUT because it just happened. My Doctors don’t know and diabetes type 1 can happen to everyone.
